The message comes by carrier pigeon actually, which is a pretty weird way to deliver a message but of course, it's thematic. A very pretty looking brown pigeon swoops down out of the sky to wherever Sara and Yuna just so happen to be that afternoon and holds out its leg.
The message Sara receives is short and simple:
Got a job for you. Meet me in front of the Saloon this evening. No show, no job. Keep it a secret, rewarded very well.
- Hal
P.S. Burn this.
On the other hand, Yuna receives:
Picked you for a role. You said you wanted to help, this is one of the roles capable of ending the game earlier. Let's see what you do with it. Meet me in front of the Saloon this evening if you accept.
- Sheriff
P.S. Please burn this. Thanks.
And that's it. Of course, if they both choose to listen to their messages, they'll find the Sheriff in front of the Saloon at dusk. They'll be greeted with a tip of his hat and a question:
"Y'all like talking to people, right?"
And then he holds out two small notebooks. Looks like they've been chosen for one of those roles that were mentioned. Good luck.
[Of course Yuna comes to take up the offer. The note calls it a chance to help; how couldn't she? She gives the sheriff a polite little bow when he tips his hat at them, takes the book, and turns right to Sara.]
Miss Valestein! [She's a grownup so she gets a polite little greeting bow too!!] You got asked to come help, too?
[ Sara isn't entirely sure of this, considering who he represents-- but she shows up anyway, with one nod to the Sheriff and an actual smile for Yuna. ]
I can't say I know exactly what this is about, but I hope it's to help.
[She's pouting a little, only because this doesn't give her any immediate leads, but she does turn to Sara and clarify:] We didn't talk about anything serious.
[So earlier in the week, before they get the chance to make their decision, Yuna's going to be hauling Sara up here to chat.]
Miss Valestine? I was wondering... Would it be okay if I told Robin about my role?
[she means damian. he's just robin to her forever]
He asked me if I had a role last week and I said no because you said we had to keep this a secret, but I trust him. Besides that, he knows a little bit about the stuff Mister Sheriff told us before. He said he was helping someone else find the role that could end the game, but he wouldn't tell me how he found out.
I think if I can tell him, we'll be able to do better, but I didn't want to do it without permission...
Robin's really great! He always works really hard and even though he's kind of shy about it, he's really, really nice. I know for sure he wants to help.
Thank you for trusting me enough to give me permission, Miss Valestine.

Mister Sheriff? Is there a way to use this role to end the game earlier without only leaving one person left?
[good try, yuna......]

Ash? Uh, but if any of it involves heavy makeouts with Noct, I'm okay not knowing that part.

No role. Talked to you, Yuna, Milla this week. Didn't talk to anyone in private. And he knows all the roles and what they're meant to do.
