The message comes by carrier pigeon actually, which is a pretty weird way to deliver a message but of course, it's thematic. A very pretty looking brown pigeon swoops down out of the sky to wherever Damian just so happens to be that afternoon and holds out its leg. The message is short and simple:
Got a job for you. Meet me at the farm at dusk. No show, no job. Keep it a secret, rewarded very well.
- Hal
P.S. Burn this.
And that's it. Of course, if Damian chooses to listen to the message, he will find the Sheriff at the farm at dusk, chewing a piece of tobacco and watching the sun set. He'll be greeted with a tip of his hat and one word:
"Bounty."
And then he holds out a small notebook. Looks like Damian's been chosen for one of those roles that were mentioned. Good luck.
Her role is tactical and she hasn't been using it to its advantage. You've done more work with your role than she has in the entire game. All the information you told her is something she should have known but she hasn't been paying attention to the overall game and instead wasting my time with her attention paid to the stocks and her own day in the life bullshit. She was supposed to socialize and gather information about the roles so then she could use that information to help or hurt others in the game. She didn't. The only one actually asking questions and paying attention is the Madame.
[ And then he holds up a hand because he's not done yet. ]
A Bandit picked her Week Three to kill. I told them not to because I wanted to give her another chance to do better with her role. They picked Annabeth instead. She still hasn't done anything with her role and because you gave her every bit of information she now has, she still has done nothing with her role and is still deadweight. Nothing has changed. You have, in fact, made her even more useless than she was before. I will probably have her killed next week.
That-- [He shuts his mouth when the Sheriff stops him. His hands slowly start balling into fists, and his jaw tightens. A copper kettle on an open flame ready to blow. If he punched the Sheriff last time, now he looks like he's ready to take the Sheriff's head off completely.] You can't do that!
She's just a girl! [A stupid, sad excuse for a pure, but Damian thinks, of course, no one could be as well-prepared and trained as people like him. People without childhoods. Children who grew up without love or compassion.
But his father showed him that. Those things exist, and even if you're ten and a killer and an heir to an Assassin lineage, you can still have those things.] You put her in that role, so now you have to live with your choice! Just like we have to live with ours! You can't just get rid of her simply because you realized the mistake you made! That isn't her fault!
She's still useful! We don't know who the Deputy is, and we need her and the Madame to increase the odds of finding the Deputy!
I put her in the role and directly explained how it would work to her that night. The fact she never followed through -- and let me not also point out her lack of help during the trials. If you tell me she's assisted in trying to catch a killer, you would be a liar. So, your use of her is her role. You can do that with one of them. As of right now, she's dead. I don't keep excess around, Damian.
I won't let you do that. [His voice pitches loudly.] I won't let you do that!
You're just a giant piece of metal! You're not any more useful than she is! I'll take your head off your shoulders before I let you murder her in cold blood!
[He is!!! SO!!! MAD!!!! (And disappointed in himself.) BUT MOSTLY MAD!!] She isn't going to die! [How does he even--HOW DOES HE FIX THIS??] My father--my father never would have--
[His head snaps up.] The Deputy. Is their reward the same? If they find me and kill me, do they get to choose: go home, restart, send everyone else home?
That's how this works, Damian. That's how all of this works. I don't say things like "I was considering killing her" just to hear my own voice, ya dingus. If your only argument against my choice is "but we need her role", then that proves my point, eh? She's a waste and she's dead.
[ So, really. Spit air all your want. He ignores the rest and moves on to the question. ]
Why have two of the same roles in the first place then? You're the one who decided it would be a good idea. Lie in the bed you made.
No one here is worthless. Everyone here has the potential to be useful to someone else if they know how to use her. It's not Yuki or my fault you didn't. Both of them have to work together. The Madame obviously hasn't gotten very far either if she hasn't found me.
We're wasting time. I already have relations with Yuki, and I can use her to find the Deputy.
Everyone here is worthless. They each have to prove their own merit. Your arguing with me over Yuna's merit only increases your own, doesn't increase hers. Nothing you say will convince me of her worth because it has nothing to do with what she's done in the game. Your action pays your reward. Her inaction pays her death. If she cared for her role, she would have participated more. She didn't. She's dead. Simple as.
No one-- [He has to stop to let the Sheriff finish; otherwise, he's just prone to yell over him. He should, tbh. Fucking Sheriff.] No one here is worthless!
You said this was a game, not a test!
Yuki hasn't been idle, not like some of the others. She's been protecting people with her own life! Being a narcissistic sociopath and doing bad is easy. It's always easier. It's simple. You kill, and then you don't think about it. You don't ever think about.
Not killing is more difficult, and that's what Yuki has been doing since she got here! When no one else cared to risk their own lives for other people because they're selfish, she was doing it without hesitation! That's worth something.
Everything always thinks doing good is important. That's not what's important because not every one can do good.
I've learned from my father, what's important: not doing wrong.
Edited (im so upset i cant type!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) 2017-02-17 03:25 (UTC)
[ There is a long slow blink here as if the Sheriff has finally realized something. ]
I have a list of people who need to be taken out for their lack of participation. Harry Potter. Rintaro Okabe. Rin Tohsaka. Yuna Yuki. They all contribute the same amount of nothing. They're all slated to die in the upcoming weeks. That's already set in stone.
[ And then, he explains -- ]
Yuna Yuki gets moved to the immediate future because you demanded her protection for nothing more than sentiment and not actual use. I was considering, now I've considered. The reaction to her death will give a better engagement with the game than the other three. She is dead.
Any argument you have with me about this does nothing to change that. It only gives you more merit and shares that your participation in the game is enough to beget an emotional reaction like this. The fact you're willing to risk so much for something so irrelevant only adds to what I use to weigh your participation. Yuna's involvement is a done deal.
In fact, I'd wager to say, those who have killed are worth more and have participated more, gained more, and lost more in this game than her. You'd be better off arguing with me over them.
[Oh my God, how did he end up so far in this fucking Hecked Up hole?!?!?! HIM, AN INNOCENT DAMIAN.]
I'm not arguing with you over people who made the choice to murder.
[Everything about him is firm, and solid, and strict. Trained. But he's got Wayne eyes even if they aren't the same color: bleeding emotion. Suffering. Persistent and hopeless.]
There's always a choice. [Surely forfeiting your own life in order to keep from killing someone else is a thing everyone should choose. His hands are still fisted, tight, digging crescents into his palms.] Do it.

Why did you plan to get rid of Yuki when she plays a role in this game? Allowing that wouldn't be fair.

If I openly request a duel instead of a trial, would you force the Deputy to accept the offer and come out?

I would pass it along. It would be up to the Deputy to accept or not.
no subject
Do it. This is an exchange for Yuna Yuki's life. If she dies, you or your audience won't get your duel.
