The message comes by carrier pigeon actually, which is a pretty weird way to deliver a message but of course, it's thematic. A very pretty looking brown pigeon swoops down out of the sky to wherever Damian just so happens to be that afternoon and holds out its leg. The message is short and simple:
Got a job for you. Meet me at the farm at dusk. No show, no job. Keep it a secret, rewarded very well.
- Hal
P.S. Burn this.
And that's it. Of course, if Damian chooses to listen to the message, he will find the Sheriff at the farm at dusk, chewing a piece of tobacco and watching the sun set. He'll be greeted with a tip of his hat and one word:
"Bounty."
And then he holds out a small notebook. Looks like Damian's been chosen for one of those roles that were mentioned. Good luck.
Why have two of the same roles in the first place then? You're the one who decided it would be a good idea. Lie in the bed you made.
No one here is worthless. Everyone here has the potential to be useful to someone else if they know how to use her. It's not Yuki or my fault you didn't. Both of them have to work together. The Madame obviously hasn't gotten very far either if she hasn't found me.
We're wasting time. I already have relations with Yuki, and I can use her to find the Deputy.
Everyone here is worthless. They each have to prove their own merit. Your arguing with me over Yuna's merit only increases your own, doesn't increase hers. Nothing you say will convince me of her worth because it has nothing to do with what she's done in the game. Your action pays your reward. Her inaction pays her death. If she cared for her role, she would have participated more. She didn't. She's dead. Simple as.
No one-- [He has to stop to let the Sheriff finish; otherwise, he's just prone to yell over him. He should, tbh. Fucking Sheriff.] No one here is worthless!
You said this was a game, not a test!
Yuki hasn't been idle, not like some of the others. She's been protecting people with her own life! Being a narcissistic sociopath and doing bad is easy. It's always easier. It's simple. You kill, and then you don't think about it. You don't ever think about.
Not killing is more difficult, and that's what Yuki has been doing since she got here! When no one else cared to risk their own lives for other people because they're selfish, she was doing it without hesitation! That's worth something.
Everything always thinks doing good is important. That's not what's important because not every one can do good.
I've learned from my father, what's important: not doing wrong.

[ There is a long slow blink here as if the Sheriff has finally realized something. ]
I have a list of people who need to be taken out for their lack of participation. Harry Potter. Rintaro Okabe. Rin Tohsaka. Yuna Yuki. They all contribute the same amount of nothing. They're all slated to die in the upcoming weeks. That's already set in stone.
[ And then, he explains -- ]
Yuna Yuki gets moved to the immediate future because you demanded her protection for nothing more than sentiment and not actual use. I was considering, now I've considered. The reaction to her death will give a better engagement with the game than the other three. She is dead.
Any argument you have with me about this does nothing to change that. It only gives you more merit and shares that your participation in the game is enough to beget an emotional reaction like this. The fact you're willing to risk so much for something so irrelevant only adds to what I use to weigh your participation. Yuna's involvement is a done deal.
In fact, I'd wager to say, those who have killed are worth more and have participated more, gained more, and lost more in this game than her. You'd be better off arguing with me over them.
[Oh my God, how did he end up so far in this fucking Hecked Up hole?!?!?! HIM, AN INNOCENT DAMIAN.]
I'm not arguing with you over people who made the choice to murder.
[Everything about him is firm, and solid, and strict. Trained. But he's got Wayne eyes even if they aren't the same color: bleeding emotion. Suffering. Persistent and hopeless.]
There's always a choice. [Surely forfeiting your own life in order to keep from killing someone else is a thing everyone should choose. His hands are still fisted, tight, digging crescents into his palms.] Do it.

I won't let you kill her.

It isn't a choice.
[ But the Sheriff sighs and adjusts his hat, straightening up. Looks like this conversation is nearly over. ]
Yes, you are. And I'll pass along your request to the Deputy. That it, Damian? Or are you going to waste my time some more?
