The message comes by carrier pigeon actually, which is a pretty weird way to deliver a message but of course, it's thematic. A very pretty looking brown pigeon swoops down out of the sky to wherever Milla just so happens to be that afternoon and holds out its leg. The message is short and simple:
Got a job for you. Meet me at the farm at dusk. No show, no job. Keep it a secret, rewarded very well.
- Hal
P.S. Burn this.
And that's it. Of course, if Milla chooses to listen to the message, she will find the Sheriff at the farm at dusk, chewing a piece of tobacco and watching the sun set. She'll be greeted with a tip of his hat and one word:
"Bounty."
And then he holds out a small notebook. Looks like Milla's been chosen for one of those roles that were mentioned. Good luck.
Two different occurrences, Milla. Curfew works on a three strike rule. First time you're out and interfering, nothing happens. Second time, injury. Third time, death. She was going to die if she went out Thursday no matter what, town would punish her for it.
Damian's mistake on the other hand, was a completely different thing. I was going to have the Bandit this week kill her. That issue got taken care of for me entirely.
[. . . flexes her hands at her sides as they ball into fists. she feels the anger coming back, but she's swallowing it down]
I see.
[she wants to know Damian's mistake, but as angry as she is about this, there are more important things to focus on. she doesn't want to accidentally use up any merit she's earned asking questions that she can get the answers for somewhere else. time to move away from this subject]
You told me before that if we get creative, there may be a way to end the game early without killing the Deputy. Considering our Bounty Leader is very much against murder, this is an option our group is attempting to explore.
One: is the Deputy required to be alive in order to end the game early without killing them? And two: are there any other concrete win conditions we don't know about that you can tell me?
[sloooowly thinks about this, and then re-frames her question a bit]
. . . yes, but they could also be alive as the last one standing, if we were unfortunate enough to get that point. I know we'd like to avoid this outcome.
So I suppose my clarification question is this: can the game be ended with them alive before that point? And can the game be ended with them dead, without the Bounty Leader having killed them?
So it's been done before. . . I suppose, then, we'll have to keep trying to think of something.
[which gives her a little bit of hope, considering she knows how anti-murder Damian is. she trusts the kid, but doesn't trust that he'll be able to end this the easy, obvious way]
Damian mentioned, in one of our first meetings, that you alone get to decide what happens to us at the very end of this game based on our performance during same. [wrinkles her nose] But you also stated, at the very beginning, that the winner can decide what happens to the dead.
Does this mean if you're unhappy with how we decide to end this, that you may not heed the winner's request to send everyone home alive?
I would prefer it if the winner decides but if the choice is unfair in a way that I can't allow, I'll step in and tell 'em no. I will also choose if everyone dies and there's no clear winner to ask.
Generally, I want y'all to go home since it's the easier option. If everyone worked hard and gained lots of merit over the game but someone cheated and picked the no one goes home option at the end, I'd step in.
[not??? as expected?? she thought he'd rather leave people dead tbh]
Why is sending us home the easier option? Don't get me wrong-- that's the end goal I'd like for us to reach. But I guess I'm a bit. . . surprised, that it's your preference, too.
Because sending you home is just a hard reset. Killing you takes into account specific afterlives and weighing where you'll go. More things to do even after the game is done.
[each answer just causes her to ask more questions tbh]
. . . and you'll have to forgive me for being dubious, but that almost seems too easy. For us to be sent home even if the winner doesn't ask for it, I mean. Is there some sort of catch we're missing?
[there's a pause and she lifts a hand to her chin as she tries to think of more questions]
-- ah. This came up at one of our meetings, but now that the entire group of Bounties is assembled, we were wondering if the normal Bounties-- myself, Shinnosuke and Noctis-- have any further duties to carry out.

Why did you want to remove Yuna from the game? Was it truly because she "broke curfew" so many times?
[she's been sitting on that since Friday, and it's obvious in her demeanor]

The Deputy can be alive when you end the game. There are no other win conditions I'm not mentioning.

The game can also be ended with them alive but you would have to convince the Deputy to cooperate with you.
no subject
This isn't the first time this game has been run, correct? I remember you mentioned that on our third day here.
Have any of the previous groups managed to find alternative ways of winning?

[ A shrug. ]
Catch about what?
no subject
About winning. About you stepping in to send everyone home should you deem the winner's request unfair.

I suppose that's good, then. I'd like for you to not have to do it this time around, as well.
[but now she has another question]
. . . what if we don't wish to have our memories of this place erased?

Then you don't. All you gotta do is ask.
