[ WEEK SIX – KILL LOG (RIN) ]
[ It's late. Extremely late. Dead of the night type late and when Rin comes to, it will be on a pile of bones. At least, that's what they feel like considering how dark it is. The entire floor seems to crack and crumble with every slight press against it and and the air feels very, very still.
If Rin looks up, she will see a large hole in the ceiling, slight bits of light coming from very high up but not enough to illuminate the location but enough to show that this place, is pretty far underground.
After a moment, the Sheriff's head appears in the light and he seems to be holding a flashlight. ]
You ain't dead yet, right? Good. Sending someone down for ya in a bit. Don't make it a whole... thing, thanks. Be seein' you, partner.
[ Then he drops the flashlight down into the pit and there's when the rest of it is revealed. Smooth stone walls in a perfect circle, floor covered in human remains, and one very large pile of weapons, all crusted over in dried blood in one way or another. A lot don't even match the theme of the setting, showing modern day pistols and even a medieval flail.
For all those comments about fights to the death, it looks like this actually is one. ]

She'd had an easy ride until now, compared to the others. She'd been raised to be independent and—it doesn't matter now, there's no time to think about it, she's listening carefully to what the sheriff says and carefully pushes herself to her feet. ]
Good evening.
no subject
But. He doesn't move to attack. In fact, there's a light, almost subdued smile.]
Hey, Rin. This probably wasn't what you were expecting, was it?
no subject
No, but there wasn't much else to expect. Why am I here? Was I too passive? I didn't try to kill enough people? Some other kind of grudge? Or maybe it was because I was too cute for people to handle another strip search—
[ a pause. ]
Which I wasn't insisting on, you know! I-I just didn't know what else to do... I don't watch much TV, but they always did that in crime novels, right?! I'm not a detective!
[ Her chill is gone too. ]

I don't know, I don't read very much. [Just saying. But.] ...usually Hal throws people down here because they aren't participating enough in the way to earn their merit. It can be for a variety of reasons. I've never really asked. This time, though, I think it's just to speed things up.
[He frowns lightly, pausing in his speech to think of what he has to say next.] What do you know about the afterlife, Rin? Just curious.

Our afterlife involves us traveling to the Underworld and being sorted. For people like me, our goal is to be let into Elysium. It's...paradise, basically.
But you already know that this world isn't yours or mine, right? That things here play by different rules? [He hasn't moved. He just wants to see what she'll do.] Dying here means something a little different than being returned to a Root or whatever since...there's kind of an extra step you have to take to get there.
no subject
Winning the game. I know that if it's won, everyone can go home. Is that what you're getting at?
no subject
[A pause. Maybe he shouldn't tell her...but he knows she will die anyway. She deserves the truth.]
Do you know what the train at the station is for?
no subject
no subject
It's where the dead are. They've been watching us, sometimes sending people letters from there. I'm not sure how it works, but they aren't gone forever. That's where they're staying until the game is over. And that's where you will go when you die. [A shrug.] Same with me whenever somebody knocks me out. But Hal's entrusted me with a job. [He gestures around the mines.]
no subject
Well, that goes with what Jason told her. ]
Aren't you lucky? [ Then, she's sighing. ] I don't like to lose, but even more... I refuse to be someone who dooms forty people after all of this. I'll cooperate under a few conditions. They should be easy for someone like you.
no subject
I think that's acceptable since I'm about to kill you, sure. Lay it on me. What kind of conditions?
no subject
I need you to promise me that no matter what it takes, someone actually needs to win. I've seen what's in the graveyard. We can't afford to mess this game up at all. [ Which she's already resigned herself to; if she had to, she would have done whatever it took to get an ending where someone could bring them all back. ] I'd like you to leave a note somewhere for me, too. Somewhere it can be found, but not in a way that it could tie it to you being the one who put it there. Or if you think my body will be found by them, feel free to leave it.
[ Then she's pausing, looking at the back of her right hand in thought, when a sad look passes her face. ]
no subject
Anyway, he considers her requests, barely pausing before he nods along.]
Would it be acceptable if I said that someone's me? [He knows what it'll come to, but it's a thought.] I'm not letting us lose. Not when we've come so far. And I can leave a note, sure...maybe in your room or something? Your body's going to have to stay down here. I don't know if anyone will come after it. That happens in this place.
[But he notices where she's looking.] ...what else is wrong, Rin?
no subject
[ She's squeezing that hand into a fist, watching the back of it. Then she releases it and sighs. ]
I was in a situation like this, before. I'm not supposed to tell anyone, but since I'm about to die now, they can't come execute me for it. The winner of the war got to have their wish granted, but like everything else, there was a catch. [ She's pointing at him, as if she were preparing a Gandr shot, then smiles. ] Please don't forget that there might be a catch here, too.
[ Dropping her hand, she's pulling a note out. If he chooses to read it, it says:
]
My last request is I want you to kill me the same way I should have died in the first place.
no subject
That's fair. He takes her letter though and he nods, pocketing it for now. He will read it when he gets out of her. He doesn't know if he'll be able to and still go through with what needs to be done.]
I think I've dealt with enough catches in my life I can be prepared for a few of them. [There's a strange sort of smile, like he's not quite explaining everything.] I'm sorry they've caught you twice. [He bows his head then.] How exactly should you have died in the first place?
no subject
Then the last thing I'll say to you before I tell you how to do it is that I think you can do it. You can, or you'll find someone else who can. If they happen to find my body, let's hope they don't spend too much time on it, right?
[ She's looking around at the weapons. Eventually, she finds a large knife, or maybe the tip of a spear. She's not sure, and doesn't particularly care. It looks close enough. Rin turns around and then hands it to him, holding the sharp tip in her fingers. ]
Stab me here with that. [ With her free hand, she's pointing to her stomach. ] Then let me bleed out.
no subject
Thank you. For understanding, I mean. Even knowing what I know this isn't easy on any of us, but I know you'll at least be safer than if you stayed here. The only thing I ask is that you don't tell anyone it was me. There are people there...they don't need to know yet.
[He knows where to leave her note. He knows Rin will be good on her word, and he knows he will do what it takes to help her in the next life. However, he takes the knife and tilts his head.]
You sure? I know you saw today's execution. [That doesn't mean he's not already eyeing the spot she's indicated. It's easier to have a point to attack, at least.]
no subject
I'm sure.
no subject
Safe travels, Rin. I'll leave your note to find. [In the lounge, he thinks. That might serve well. With that, he bows his head...and like before there's no hesitation as he lunges, driving the blade tip into her stomach. He cuts deep, opening a wound and pulling it out to allow her to bleed. He takes a step back and drops the knife behind him.]
And thank you for understanding. I won't let you down.

As the blood rolls out, she can feel it again—the warm hug she'd given to Sakura, to someone who had deserved all of the love and kindness in the world but had been denied just that. Is it raining in the mine? Because there's a few small tears streaking down her face.
But more importantly, she's smiling. Even when blood drips out of her mouth and her eyes are looking at something far away, she's smiling like it's completely peaceful.
Rin Tohsaka is fuckin deda ]

He'll take her note and leave it somewhere. He'll continue on his mission as he always has. With that, he turns to leave the same way he came.
Rest in peace. Rin.]
