GRAVEYARD

So, you're dead. Shame, that.

But on the other hand, it's actually kind of nice.

When you "wake" in some odd version of it, you'll find yourself lying on a rather plush bed. It's cozy and warm and just soft enough to tempt anyone back into sleep. The room is equally nice, if small, and when you turn and open the curtains to look out the window, you will see... wait, is that the town?

It is, actually. The town is laid out quite simply across the window and no matter how many times you may bang or wave through the window, no one seems to notice you. If you're smart enough to give up the venture and leave the small bedroom, you will notice that, of course, you are on the train.

The train that, is actually pretty fancy.

Moving through it, past the sleeping cabins and through to the main carts, you will find a dining car with fine dishware and meals of all kinds made at a push of a button or a request given to the air. They'll appear, freshly made and ready to eat at the table of your choice with any drink you could want. There truly doesn't seem to be any limits when it comes to the luxury of the meal.

There is also a bathhouse car with private bathrooms and saunas to fit up to four. Even one rather large room containing a small pool/hot tub of sorts is available for just about anyone to take a dip. It's kind of outlandish, honestly.

Then the lounge car, with its library and plush armchairs and couches. A pool table, a darts board, even a small area dedicated to painting. There's a bar too, fully stocked and ready for anyone who needs a drink. All it would require is a request from the bartender who... looks surprisingly familiar?

The Sheriff is there, much cleaner cut than his counterpart outside of the train. He looks up mildly at any arrivals, giving them a nod of greeting before going back to organizing bottles or setting cigars out for a smoke. He doesn't seem to be surprised at all by anyone who appears. Just... ready to serve them, whatever they may wish.

It all sort of seems okay for a moment, until you realize you're just here to wait for the game to end. Awkward.

[ ...

Xion presses her face into the towel briefly, relishing its cool on her skin, and then lifts her head as she just uses it to lightly rub at her eyes instead. ]

... can you tell me what you remember about your brother, Higekiri?

[ She doesn't want to talk about it. But she would like to talk about his family - she remembers when they met, how he said he had trouble remembering things. ]

[ Higekiri sits down properly on a chair, with his hands folded in his lap. He's learning a bit more sensitivity and tact, which is good, otherwise he'd press about her final moments... That wouldn't be good. ]

We're made from the same piece of steel, so that's how we're brothers, even as swords. Even a pair of brothers owned us. Ah... we look like twins. He just doesn't smile and his hair's a pretty color, like a forest fading into the mist.

[ Sara gave such a confused look about that family thing back then... The life of a living object is a strange one, honestly. ]

I wouldn't remember his name, because I didn't care about his name. Our names have changed so much over all these years we've lived, so what's the point? But my brother takes it badly, because he thought I didn't care about him. He's a good brother, serious and looks out for me. But, I'm not good at loving him the way he loves me, so he cries a lot.

[ And it's his fault. He's such an awkward, bordering on terrible older brother, he can't help but laugh softly. ]

I remember it for now because everything about him matters to me, I think about him a lot. The name he goes by now is a little ugly... but so is mine, so we can be a matching set.

[ Well. Xion is probably one of the few who won't take any issue with his being a living object. Being a doll herself, she can hardly gainsay anyone else's story of who - and most especially what - they are. So she takes it rather in stride, mostly just listening to him thoughtfully.

She'll move towards a chair beside him, too, though she does not sit. She leans on the back of it, her arms folded. It's nice, being able to stand and have it not hurt. The damp cloth she hangs onto, occasionally pressing it to her face again. ]

... I dunno. To me, it sounds like you really care about him. [ A small smile. ] There's different kinds of love, right? Even if you don't love each other in the same way... I'm sure he knows you still care about him. [ A tilt of her head, then. ] ... what makes a name ugly?

[ that's the part that kind of goes over her head. ]

[ The reset is pretty nice and almost... a little reward and relief for all those who suffered during their time alive... because wow? The graveyard might have pitied you all for how... whole assed everything want. He actually does look at her leg briefly when she stands. You do you Xion, enjoy standing up for yourself! Wait... ]

Haha... He does forgive my mistakes. "That's just how my elder brother is," is something he'd say a lot. Maybe that's acknowledgement of something.

[ That he's trying. When inquired about the name, Higekiri brings a hand horizontally to his neck, without that telltale cutting motion someone would do as a warning. ]

Hige means "beard", kiri is "cut". Hiza means "knee" and maru's a cute ending for names, in most cases. An old tradition was to test swords on criminals sentenced to death. I cut through one's beard along with his neck, and Hizamaru cut through both of another's knees.

...Gruesome, isn't it?
