[ BOUNTY ]

BOUNTY (SHINNOSUKE)

The message comes by carrier pigeon actually, which is a pretty weird way to deliver a message but of course, it's thematic. A very pretty looking brown pigeon swoops down out of the sky to wherever Shinnosuke just so happens to be that afternoon and holds out its leg. The message is short and simple:

Got a job for you. Meet me at the farm at dusk. No show, no job. Keep it a secret, rewarded very well.

- Hal

P.S. Burn this.
And that's it. Of course, if Shinnosuke chooses to listen to the message, he will find the Sheriff at the farm at dusk, chewing a piece of tobacco and watching the sun set. He'll be greeted with a tip of his hat and one word:

"Bounty."

And then he holds out a small notebook. Looks like Shinnosuke's been chosen for one of those roles that were mentioned. Good luck.

[Someone has died, and the world goes on.

A young girl died for the sake of "justice", and the world goes on.

But because the world goes on—and that's absolute, no matter the tragedy—so does Shinnosuke. (... What a familiar story this is, isn't it?) And thus, he seeks out the Sheriff.]

Hello, Mr. Sheriff. I have a few questions, if you would.

[... Well, now one of them is, Do you ever do anything besides carve?, but he won't actually ask that.]

First... on Friday, the body was hidden, right? What would've happened if none of us had found it?
insincerely: ᴍᴀɴɢᴀ. (you should FEEL BAD)

[personal profile] insincerely 2017-01-24 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Then that means if I ever happen to kill someone, I can dispose of the corpse if I want, right?

[He says that a lot more casually than he actually feels about the idea, but.]

Would you announce who the victim was? Or would we be left to figure that out from a headcount?
insincerely: ᴍᴀɴɢᴀ. (and for a moment i looked normal)

[personal profile] insincerely 2017-01-24 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ugh, he hates himself for this so much right now. :(]

So we'll know who it was, one way or another. Well, it'd be a pretty awkward trial if we weren't even sure of the victim...

[How would that even work?? Actually, better not question that, or it's somehow going to happen.]

Next question: it says in our rulebook that the Bounties don't have to kill weekly, but we'll have to kill the Bandits if they reject their roles. While I can make some inferences from that... can I just have you confirm what the role of the Bandit is?

[He freezes, making a face because what the fuck, why would you put him on the spot like that?

He doesn't say yes immediately, which he supposes is a good sign, depending on how one defines "good". On the other hand, he also doesn't say no immediately. After a few moments of simply staring, he manages to find his voice again.]

"Offer", huh... even though we'll die as well if we refuse?

[He lets out a light, sardonic laugh, before he continues, sounding far more serious this time.]

... Could I request it if certain people are put up for death?
insincerely: ɴᴏᴠᴇʟ. (aggggh get that mic away from me)

[personal profile] insincerely 2017-01-25 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Am I allowed to spill secrets if I get caught?

[... Damn it. He's disgusted with himself for making this request, for more than one reason. Putting aside any sort of hypocritical morality nonsense, he really shouldn't be volunteering for anything. It just puts him at more risk in trials to actually be guilty.

Even knowing that, though, he reluctantly replies:]

... Yeah. That's it. Is that fine?
insincerely: ᴍᴀɴɢᴀ. (and for a moment i looked normal)

Rest assured, I have no desire to talk unless I'm about to die anyway. Your little threat's just another incentive to keep my mouth shut.

[He doesn't trust anyone nearly enough to reveal his role.]

... I already know. [...] Yuna Yuki, Seizaburo Kamiya, Xion.

[Of course, any of them could also be Bounties, in which case he must look like a fool, or they could die before they're selected as a Bandit. But if that isn't the case, then...

Those three are the kindest people he knows here, and even though he can barely admit it to himself, he's getting attached (and he'll do what he can to stop himself, but he already knows that that didn't work on Shiro and co. back home; in the end, he's weak). They don't deserve to die in this place, let alone cruelly. He has no idea who the other Bounties are or what they're like, so at the very least, he wants to be able to grant those three quick deaths if it comes down to that.

... He really is a disgusting hypocrite.]

Shut up.

[That's so insulting??]

Yes, yes. Don't worry, I'll be putting my survival above all else. [... Minus this one request, anyway, because he knows how stupid this entire thing is from a self-preservation perspective, but yes, he's soft. Thanks for reminding him, damn it.] If I'm going to die, I'd rather it not be for something as idiotic as breaking a rule.
insincerely: ᴍᴀɴɢᴀ. (allow me to give you my informed opinion)

[He waves a hand as he walks away, because yes, yes, except damn it, he doesn't have much to go off of.

This is a hard job!! >:(]
