Their CR was so unexpected after my failure in their first thread but ahhh I don't regret a moment of it, despite my endless shrieks in your general direction.
Initially, she gravitated toward Will because he absolutely did not give a fuck and she wouldn't have to make any effort if she remained in his space. I wouldn't even call it interacting, because she had no intention of doing so -- she just wanted the relief of quiet and not having to compensate for her disability. Will had done pretty well snarling at people and acting like a serial killer, after all! Chane didn't feel bad about taking advantage of it for her own purposes. I'm pretty sure we talked about this, but I definitely imagine their were quite a few afternoons where she would just sit with him and read or look out the window.
So, when it escalated to Will lying for her in a trial and then offering her his (and Hannibal's) help in whatever she ended up doing next, she was both happy and a bit overwhelmed. Having spent the first twenty-ish years of her life conditioned to think of herself as a resource, all while having enough self-awareness to be cognizant of that conditioning, it still messes with her worldview when she's treated like a person. Not only did Will do exactly that, he lived up to his word: he covered for her in a trial, he helped her with Lust's body, he ensured that her killer met with justice. For all of that, she's incredibly grateful and it coloured their interactions going forward.
With Will, she never really had to talk to get herself across, so that made her more inclined toward him as opposed to anyone who would require consistent writing and note passing. He was able to read her in a way that most people (read: castmates) can only do after a few years of knowing her. I don't even know what to say about the consistent handholding, other than it happened and it was adorable and akdhghf
He's without a doubt her closest piece of crosscanon CR in Whole Ass and she's going to miss him terribly, at least for a good while after disembarking from the train.
However, she never would have gone back to his world with him, even if the necessary criteria for him to invite her had been there. She is still dedicated to the idea that she is Huey's experiment before she's anything else, including Claire's wife or Will's friend -- and, typically, the final step of any experiment involving a living being is termination auuuugh Baccanos are so fucking weird BASICALLY THE THOUGHT OF HER BODY NOT BELONGING TO HER FATHER (in a "scientific" sense) STILL HASN'T OCCURRED TO HER AND LIKELY NEVER WILL. That's the most significant reason.
I do think she would have considered it, if only briefly! But her answer always would have been no. And, had she come here alone, perhaps earlier in her canon timeline, then... "that kind of party" could have definitely happened as well.
