but anyway god hello baseslides here days later I LIKE HOW I COULD HAVE JUST TOLD YOU ALL OF THIS IN PERSON YA WEIRDO.
so xion and percy were very, very interesting. they were interesting in a lot of ways because of who they were, their canon points, and how they were similar to people they knew in their own canons. I've told you before that xion reminded percy a lot of hazel (who you haven't met because you suck and need to read heroes of olympus??? I will hit you with these books) in that they both girls who's out of place in the world and dead and sad and just curious and hopeful. he bonds with hazel pretty quickly when he meets her and it's the same way he'd managed to bond with xion really, really fast
immediately he felt that xion didn't belong in a game like this, and he knew that the game would slowly cause her to become undone. he recognized the signs of her stress early and it pissed him off that the game had dragged someone like her in. he sympathized with her a lot and the more she told him about herself the more he wanted to not only protect her but help her help herself.
it was probably for the best that riku and annabeth died in the same week because prioritizing xion helped percy stay on track and focus on the game. he wanted to do his best to be there for her and make sure she wasn't too lost in grief. he's lost a lot of friends before and though losing annabeth gutted him, he knew that it was something the pair of them could bond over and he could be a little more open with her.
in the end, however, he started wondering who she was talking to and what she was doing. he knew he shouldn't have been as cagey with her, but he was worried about information getting out and tracking to her and someone hurting her before they could even find out who it was. he understood why she was angry and though it annoyed him he couldn't do much about it but let her run her course. xion and percy are both stubborn and bullheaded that way. she fought with him and he let her go/walked away because he knew it was what needed to be done. they're both people who hate being restrained, but he also knew he had the responsibility of keeping her safe as long as possible since he was older and more aware of what was going on than she was.
it crushed him to give up on finding her killer, though he figured she would understand. after everything that the game put them through he felt that xion deserved a second (third?) change at life and so when natalie suggested xion come back with them to manhattan obviously he said yes. she's very close and he wants to give her the best opportunities possible now that they're all out of here, and he hopes she'll one day be as happy as she was when he first met her
so basically, xion is precious to him and he'll fight to bring light back to her
